"Beware of the Trains"
Author: cinder

Got this sign as an early Christmas present.  It is cast iron and weighs 40#.  What might be its origin?

I’ve seen that phrasing used in the U.K.

I agree. Pretty sure it's from the UK.

So someone paid to have a 40 lb. sign shipped across the pond? 😳

I found the first sign in this thread on a UK auction site listed as "GER cast iron sign BEWARE OF THE TRAINS measuring 24in x 12in. Face restored and rear original."

Great Eastern Railway linked London Liverpool Street to Norwich and which had other lines through East Anglia.

Given how Canada was tied more closely to the U.K. until WWII or so, is it possible the Canadian railroads used a sign like this?

The Daleks are a fictional extraterrestrial race of mutants principally portrayed in the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who. The Daleks were conceived by science-fiction writer Terry Nation and first appeared in the 1963 Doctor Who serial The Daleks, in the shells designed by Raymond Cusick.

I happened to find the picture I took of one of these in service along the former London Northeastern in the town of March. At least this was still up and in service back in July 26th 2014.
