A Few Hours in Palmer MA 12/4/2019

Spent a few hours yesterday morning shooting at MP83 in Palmer MA.

Enjoy -

# 1 - Our first serious storm of the year left one to two feet of snow throughout New England. Running past the snow piles in Palmer, Q012 heads to Worcester with a long drag of stacks.

#2 - Conductors delight......NOT!    The NECR yard at Palmer was plugged, with both railcars and snow.

#3 - Q022 was next through on the main.

CSX brought out Snow Jet SB 9913 for an appearance and it put on quite a show.

#1 - CSX called in the big guns - the Snow Jet - to clear snow and ice from switches.

#2 - In just a few minutes, the Snow Jet has melted and blown away all the ice and snow and debris and even some ballast from around the switch.

#3 - This is a long telephoto shot from down in the yard and shows why you never want to get close to the business end of the Snow Jet - the amount of debris it moves is very impressive!

Excellent photos! Always wondered how fast one of those snow-jets would go if the brakes weren't engaged....

Thank you John, I've wondered the same thing myself.
It's interesting to compare the attached, one of my Dad's photos from 1969, with the current model.
Today's is much smaller, self propelled and constructed of metal, not wood.
