The NorthJersey.com reports on efforts to purchase the former Erie and New York & Greenwood Lake rail property on Dundee Island, a section of Passaic. The line, which is described as nearly abandoned, once served a bustling industrial area, some of it powered by water from the Dundee Lake dam. This is the western end of the street running section in adjacent Garfield which connected with the Bergen Short Cut. The last use was a garbage transfer site and storage yard for the LIRR power pack unit, a U34CH, and other rail equipment.

Neighbors are furious that the linear rail property has become a magnet for criminal activity and homeless camps. The present owner would like to trade the land for other, more attractive space.

The U34CH moved out to years ago.  The FA, a GP7, an Erie caboose, and at least 2 passenger cars remain at the former construction debris transfer facility.

Didn't they just clean this property up a year or two ago;??

Yes.  The article mentions that the area was cleaned up two years ago, but has reverted to its former derelict state and residents. It's not clear whether that's the several block right of way through the park and hobo jungle, or the former garbage transfer facility.

It's an absolute mess again.
