Eastern Railroad Discussion > Which came first? The chicken or the egg?

Question:  Can an at grade rail crossing be reworked one side at a time to allow for continued use of the road that crosses the rail ROW?  Notwithstanding the fact that the railroad was firmly entrenched in that part of the landscape untold decades before the subject community was established.  Please see the link for further details.

Longstory short.   Depends on the width of the road.  If it is wide enough it could work.  We do it with road bridges all the time.  But sometimes. The time it takes to do it that way is a lot aggravating for everybody than just closing and doing the whoole thing at once.  Takes more time to completely do one side then flip everything and do the other.  

Not the railroads fault there was one entrance to that area.  Sounds more like bad city planning.  What happens if a derailment closes it for days?

The person holding a sign mentioned in the article must be a piece of work, turning a crossing replacement into a race issue.
Crossing is only closed for 12 hours overnight. Plan ahead and park outside your neighborhood if you need to go somewhere.
