Eastern Railroad Discussion > New SMS Power Leaves Delmarva Today

Former Conrail and later NS B23-7s 4054 and 4024 were picked up in Harrington today by HA-1 and interchanged to NS at Clayton.  Final destination is South Jersey.  I caught them rolling through Cheswold, DE shortly before 1 PM.

Ordinarily, I'd be enthused to hear about somebody about to put some B23-7s to work.... but not if they're displacing Baldwins. What's the story with this?

Where in the Delmarva did these come from?

The two B23-7’s came out of the former Delaware Coast Line Railroad’s shop at Georgetown, Del.

I believe these may simply be surplus. The Baldwin that is away from the shop in Morrisville, PA is getting pretty tired and needs to head back to SJ for work (last I heard anyway). At least they will be at a place that can properly take care of these older GEs, which can be reliable units if given the proper care.

These two units just went West through Bowers PA at about 9:20 am on the Reading line trailing the power on the H44.
