D&H Land Sunday
Author: train1275

Typical January weather today after some stormy weather yesterday.

1. Surprise ! The 23K pops into sight unexpectedly at Esperance, NY south of Schenectady and it's out of the car for a quick snapshot. Power is NS 4011 and 8001.

2. Just up the track at Gage Road, Delanson comes Train 205 chasing him towards Binghamton. 205 has NS 1822, 3650 and 9812.

3. A going away shot of the 205.

4. A bit of a squall hits at Mohawk Yard Schenectady as NS 30T comes down from Saratoga. He has to stop as the high green we see is for Amtrak #69 "The Adirondack" to Montreal.

5. And here comes #69 with Amtrak 100 leading. He has come off the Mohawk River bridge and is rounding the curve into the yard.

6. The Conductor of NS 30T (actually I think officially here Train 930 as he is on the CP) rolls by #69.

7. Now the 30T can come out to head out and over the Mohawk River bridge, downtown Schenectady and on to East Binghamton yard, the former DL&W yard that for many years was called "the new yard" by old timers. A nice friendly crew on board !

8. A view of the power as they  lean into the curve. Look at that, all SD60E's from 1985-86 ! NS 7020, 7023 and 7017.

9. The 22K is tied down at Ferry Street on the east side of the river at Mechanicville on Pan Am with a frosty nose. He came out of Binghamton and up the Susquehanna Valley at o-dark-30 in the morning and here shortly after noon awaits a crew to take the train to Ayer, MA over the old B&M. The rear end of 22K is out over the Hudson River bridge.

10. Back in downtown Schenectady Amtrak Train 48 the "Lake Shore Limited" is due and here it comes over the old Erie Canal bridge, now Erie Boulevard, approaching the station stop. Power is Amtrak 124 and 145.

11. A quick glance up at the Amtrak heritage #145 pulling into Schenectady  ends the day.

All good shots.  I especially like #6 that shows the NS crewman giving Amtrak a roll-by inspection.

I enjoyed your pictures & congratulations on IOTD. Nice catch of the SD-60's leaning into that curve.

Great photos!  I especially like the high green in the snow.
