Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSX Reinstating Service on ex- Monon to New Albany IN

CSX is reinstating service to about the southernmost 4 Miles of the old Monon from the K&I Bridge to North Vernia (Grant Line Road Crossing) in order to provide service to Northwest Ordinance Distilling owned by the Sazerac Company. This plant opened during November 2018 in a facility previously occupied by the Pillsbury Prepared Dough Products Plant. Service had been suspended since Pillsbury vacated the facility several years ago. CSX accesses this ex-Monon trackage via rights on the NS through Louisville and over the Ohio River on the K&I Bridge.

About 125 Miles of Ex-Monon between North Vernia and Cloverdale has been or is in the process of being removed.

Well at least the street running in New Albany will resume.  

But north of New Albany on towards Mitchell is still planned to be torn up?

Affirmative.  Rails have been or wiil be removed on all 125 Miles from north from New Albany to Cloverdale.
This segment did not generate much online traffic.  Thru train operation by CSX and INRD discontinued ages ago.

Line never was a coal route.  Monon tried to make it one but fail and folded their cars by merging into L&N.

Bedford to Cloverdale has been removed for many years. The Indiana RR removed their track northwest of Bedford as well many years ago.

Bedford to the B&O at Mitchell and then on to New Albany is all that's left of the Monon south end. That part hasn't seen rail traffic in many years. It also had zero or next to zero industry. Sadly.

It will be little more than a long branch line. No coal on this route.
