Historically, Maine was a good place to find GP38s.  The BAR had some of the first ones built, and MEC had a baker's dozen as well.  But the International of Maine (CP across Maine) was more likely to host MLWs or Alcos than Geeps, at least until Iron Road arrived on the scene in 1995.  At the eastern end, New Brunswick Southern started off with a fleet of leased GP9, eventually adding GP35s rebuilt as GP38-3s, and 3 GP38-2 (2317-19) originally belonging to the Devco Railway, a coal hauling shortline in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

On March 19, 2004, 2318 and 2319 (ex-Devco 216 and 219 were in charge of train 907 at Lambert Lake, ME just past noon .  About two hours later they were splitting the old ABS signals at Mattawamkeag, nearing the end of what had once been running rights on Maine Central (CP bought the line from MEC in the mid '70s).  This group of 3 Geeps is somewhat unusual in having very small fuel tanks (Devco was a SHORT line), and no dynamic brakes.  All three have been modified to provide power to road slugs since these photos were taken.

The yellow paint on the trailing unit was for a shortlived intermodal service that was a joint venture between NBSR and Montreal, Maine & Atlantic.  The Sunbury Express ran short (less than 20 cars) TOFC trains between Saint John and Montreal, but lasted only about a year.  More pictures on the Canadian Board here: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,4944486
