CSX OCS P901
Author: overniteman

On what could be the worst weather day this year here, CSX's OCS heads for home.

Here, it's heading North on the Port Reading Seconday to Bound Brook. I guess they'll pass the wreckage of NS 63V.

Over to the Trenton Sub at Port Reading Junction and South.

Was that the only car with a new/different paint scheme? Interesting change. The CSX passenger fleet has been pretty consistent for decades.

No, there is another one that was repainted into the same scheme and also renamed to "Michael J. Ward."

The train passed me at 2:51.

That's a nice touch. Curious what the cars were prior to the repaint and what this portends for the rest of the fleet.

I wonder if CSX would consider buying a lightly used, nearly new Viewliner 2 dining car for its fleet?

The "Michael Ward" is the former CSX "Youngstown", ex-Conrail 11, original Erie "Pride of Youngstown" (or something close to that).  The EHH is former CSX "Waycross", "Stonewall" and "Washington", original Chessie System/C&O (forgotten the number) and it seems like I recall a history of it being built as a private car but I'm too lazy to go look it up.

i like the new paint scheme!  As for "big shots on the rear", one of the people in the photograph is probably the district Roadmaster who is fervently wishing he was anyplace EXCEPT on that train.

I love the new (old B&O) paint scheme.  This was one of the best paint colors ever, the "Royal Blue" train colors of the old B&O.  I hope that they paint all their cars this way and maybe they will paint a couple of their locomotives too.  That would be historical for sure.

The fleet and F40's will all receive that scheme as time and budget permits.

The cars look cool, but I would never name anything after a corporate raider named EHH!

Classy paint job. Very B&O-esque.

Word is they went to the B&O Museum to get the correct B&O blue paint info.

"Michael J. Ward" was originally Erie, then EL "Spirit of Youngstown,"  a 1954 Pullman-Standard 10 Roomette/5 Double bedroom car built (along with its sister "Pride of Youngstown" to Canadian National specs and as an add-on to a CN order for similar cars. The photo is of a highly accurate Rapido model of the car as it appeared in its first life on the Erie from 1954 until repainted in Lackawanna colors following the 1960 EL merger. It remained in revenue service until the final days of EL intercity passenger service.

In CSX OCS service it has had three names, "Youngstown," "Pennsylvania," and now "Michael J. Ward."

One hopes all the CSX office cars get the B&O Royal Blue livery.

The "New York" car in the consist was built by Pullman in 1922 for NYC it has a modified observation deck for President FDR's wheelchair. Was also part of the RFK Funeral train.
