Hello, I'm going to be in Elizabethtown PA tomorrow. I'm arriving on Amtrak Train # 663 at 12:20 and then will be departing there at 5:22 on 672. Will any freight trains be passing through Elizabethtown during the five hours that I will be there? I know that there are locals based out of Lancaster but I don't think I will have the time to go there. I know I won't have any time to go to the NS Harrisburg Line. Thanks.

I wouldn't count on anything. If you want to improve your odds, go to Middletown instead -- at least there you might get lucky with something on the Royalton Branch.

Agree with this. E-town should be mostly if not all an AMT show. Middletown does have the Royalton Branch but let us not forget the M&H there in town not far from the AMT Station. If ya like ALCO's, then they are where ya wanna go. They have a WM Painted S6 and one of the kadg T6's built. And it is easy to shoot. Ben

Middletown will be done another time and when the Middletown & Hummelstown RR is running. I want to take a ride on that. Who knows when I will be able to do it. At the time that I go to Middletown, hopefully there will be something running on the Royalton Line. If I spend a night or two around Middletown, then I will probably get some railfanning done on the NS Former Reading Harrisburg Line.

If you want to see freight trains, why not ride all of the way to Harrisburg?  NS's Harrisburg Line comes very close to the station.  You can also see trains on Lurgan Branch (former Reading).

Yes that is true about Harrisburg. I have been there many times and there are ample railfanning opportunities for freight there. I find that it's better to railfan freight in Harrisburg than it is to get passenger.

Elizabethtown or Middletown?  Bring a couple of thumbs to twiddle.

Passfanatic appears to be committed to visiting different Amtrak stations by train and hanging out at those places for periods of hours. In doing so, he takes the risk that Amtrak is all he's going to see.
