Author: train1275

February 22, 2020

1. Caught 11R leaving Mechanicville at Coons Crossing with NS 8178 9480 7588 and Pan Am 3402.

2. A going away shot of 11R as it starts it's daily trip towards Binghamton.

3. Further up the D&H we catch a daylight Train 930 apparently released from the Canadian blockade seen here passing Putnam Station between Whitehall and Ticonderoga along Lake Champlain. CN 2246 leads NS 7334 and 9169.

Moving on to Sunday February 23, 2020

4. Taken by surprise with a train between the eyes .... approaching the Fort View Inn on Route 22 at Ticonderoga - NS 8101 the Central of Georgia heritage unit comes north with Train 931. Grab shot.

5. The 8101 takes in Lake Champlain along Route 22 at Ticonderoga.

6. And then is caught at Crown Point. That depot sure is a bright canary yellow !

7. The 11R and 16R trains are detouring over the Vermont Railway - ex Rutland - and so a quick trip over to the Green Mountians finds a detouring 11R coming out of Rutland bound for the Pan Am and Mechanicville. Power was VTR 207 (built in October 1969 - back when the Mets won the series against the Orioles) as Southern 2813. The trailing units were MEC 5967 (ex Conrail 5069), MEC 5948 (ex NYSW 4044), MEC 5973 (ex CR 5018) and MEC 5966 (ex CR 5068). Caught here at Walker Mountain Road near Clarendon, VT along Otter Creek. Speed was a blistering 10MPH. A very slow chase.

8. A going away along the twisty branchline profile.

9. A liitle further souh passing a horse stable near Clarendon.

* just a quick note - I am not real familiar with the territory so any geographic corrections are welcome.

A little further down the line - it was not hard at 10mph !

10. Past a colonial mansion - definitely in New England !

Side shot of VTR 207 at a rural crossing.

12. A going away of the power.

16. The detours brought out Fan Frenzy, as seen here at the Welcome to the Green Mountains sign near Mount Tabor, VT

17. A last look at the 11R detour with a mountain back drop near Mount Tabor.

18. Final frame of the day is a late 16R running up the D&H main at sunset at Otego. Power is the same as on yesterday's 11R seen as the first photo of this post at Mechanicville. NS 8178, 7588 9480 and Pan Am 3402.

Great captures! If you see a dozen railfan backsides, something special must be happening!

Great set. My favorite is number 13 at Wallingford.
