Actual Product Weight ?
Author: dstill

LD LMT  is  222800 total weight
LT LW     is 63000 car weight
The difference 159800 would be the actual product weight?

that would be a 286k car in which the load limit (LD LMT) is the amount of load it can carry.

No 222800 is the weight you can load into the car and the 63000 is the light unloaded car weight so when fully loaded the car weighs 285800 just under the 286000 limit.

This is  a minor pet peeve of mine. Twice in the last couple of years some model rr magazines have had articles about freight cars with the same facts you asked about. I wrote a letter to them both explaining I used to load rail cars with plywood and if I did that and under loaded a car by 63000# I would have been called on the carpet and probably disciplined for costing the company money by shipping out a grossly light load.
