Sold or Being Repainted NS, Take 2
Author: 1Train2Many

I posted this yesterday and someone deleted it.  Why?  We were curious if anyone knows if this engine is being repainted or was it sold?  We have never seen a Norfolk Southern without "NS" on the side and it looked like it was covered with paper.  Thanks!

I do recall seeing this last night too and was wonderinfg what the fate of this unit is too.  I hope its not being scraped.  Was actually thinking what it would have looked like if they painted over the sttripes and left the horse.

According to Chris Toth's NS roster website, 2873 is no longer on the NS roster.  I have no idea what it's future may hold.

Typically, when they are sold the NS on the sides is marked over.  2873 has been off the roster for several years. I guess they have decided not to rebuild it into something else.

The 2873 was retired by NS in November 2015, then sold by auction to LTE Rail Services (LTEX) in 12-2017. It eventually found its way to the Elizabethtown Industrial Railroad. Unknown where its headed now.

We took this photo in the Enola, PA freight yard yesterday afternoon (3/20/20).

For what it's worth, TODAY is 3/21/20, and YESTERDAY was 3/20/20.

One of the last GP38ACs delivered to Southern in late 1971. Three months later, the 5000-series GP38-2s started arriving.

The mystery continues. I was the first to reply that I had seen this post . Now my reply is missing or deleted.

What mystery.
Retired by NS and sold to LTE.  Then to Etown Industrial, which apparently is not operating these days.  So it is back to LTE, or whereever the next lease or sale is.

This is how NS typically blanks out their logo when they sell an engine.   As for repainting...is there a paint shop at Enola?  I dont think so, so the "repainting" question is prob moot.   Its prob just an LTE leassor, or Etoen industrial sold it to someone, if they owned it.
Elizabethtown is across the river from enola.

Etown still operating. They owned and sold it to someone out west - headed to BNSF at Chicago.

Thank you for all of your replies!  Also, there is no paint shop in Enola, PA.  I thought maybe they would send it to Altoona for re-painting.  Now I will keep my eye out for it on different live cams traveling west.
