Amazon containers?
Author: march_hare

Just came back from a couple hours of low-social-contact trainwatching on the CSX, former NYC, Water Level route.

One of the intermodal trains had a handful of domestic 53-foot containers painted for Amazon Prime.  Anybody know the story behind that?

Last time I rode Southwest Chief from Chicago, there were LONG lines of newly manufactured semi trailers at the Great Dane/Pines plant near Kewaunee, Il.  Pinted in the amazon dark blue scheme.

Amazon has purchased a large fleet of the containers to add to their trailer fleet running on the western railroads. Main use of the containers and trailers is to move import freight from west coast to Amazon warehouses around the US.  Walmart also has a big fleet of the 53ft containers to handle west coast imports going to their stores and warehouses..

Simple business decision since more items are moving by container because fewer customers have rail service. Been heading this way for 30 years.

Just making sure they have a steady supply of containers when and where they want them.
