More helpers on the Maryland Midland
Author: bigsavage

April 13, 2020 saw another helper set on the Maryland Midland's UBHF turn.
This time there was 2 SD40-2s on the rear end when they reached Thurmont, however after the half dozen or so empties were picked up at NVR plant, the helpers were sandwiched between the loaded cement cars and the empties.
I was able to shoot the train twice in Thurmont between the rain deluges.

Leaving Thurmont by the cemetery on Altamont Ave.
I did not chase the train up the mountain because of the weather, and regretably missed a chance at possibly catching the CSX Geometry train that operated on the Hanover sub.

Love that last tele-photo.  stick rail looks great.

When the coronas finally move on, I need to camp out at Cunningham Falls SP and spend a day watching MM.

Hmmmm
Day1+2  Maryland Midland
Day 3+4 Cumberland, Sand Patch, WMSR
Day 5  South Branch + Potomac Eagle

Just remember MMID goes west from Union Bridge on M-W-F, east on T-TH.
Stone trains to Woodsboro are in afternoons.

Surprise, surprise; MMID ran 2060 and a SD light up to Highfield this a.m., just came back with a potash hopper for the Taneytown branch and about 2 dozen empty cement hoppers...

The did not run light up to Highfield. They took 35 empty box cars to CSX for interchange. The cars just came off lease form Lehigh Cement's failed attempt to ship bagged cement by rail.
