A worn out NS 1072 led 66J down the Harrisburg Line today in great weather. First seen at Royersford and then at Abrams yard. The IT unit looks like it's puffing steam in photo 3, but the "cloud" comes from the nuclear power plant in Limerick.

It appears that NS has finally caught on to the fact that, in order to maximize performance, AC's should always be paired with AC's; no DC short time ratings, full dynamics down to 1/2 mph, wheel slip all but non-existent,etc.  Most of the others figured that out early on but good old "last-to-adapt-to-any-new technology", or "not invented here" syndrome, NS remained true to form for years.

AC's and DC's still get mixed plenty in all services, even unit trains. There's just a lot more AC units now so getting a matched set is a lot more likely.

Nice catches! The first time I saw this unit it was sitting on the quarry lead by itself in Birdsboro about 7 years ago. It was the first time I caught two of NS’s heritage u it’s in one day as I drove over the south mountain in time to catch the Trading unit also!
