10 SD80MAC’s on NS 171.
Author: florida581

NS 171-19 (Conway, PA - Chattanooga, TN) is currently in Columbus, OH with 10 SD80MAC's in tow.  I believe these were sold to Progress Rail a few months ago.  The full consist is NS 1015, 9560, 7201, 7220, 7204, 7211, 7212, 7208, 7216, 7207, 7203, and 7210.  I'm not sure if these will be set out somewhere en route or if they'll go all the way to Chattanooga.

If those continue south, a heads up would be appreciated.  That would likely be a mid afternoon arrival here in Chattanooga tomorrow.

I'll try to be out to get them.  171 seems to normally be a mid-morning train past me here in Lancing.  If I am, I'll post if they're still on.

I'd guess Danville is the next test.

Makes me wonder if they are billed to Birmingham, AL.  Birmingham Rail & Locomotive in Bessemer, AL has been harvesting parts for Progress Rail and then scrapping the remains.

Meeting 178.  Will probably have to meet 224 somewhere also.

Meant to post when they passed Lancing at 0725, but my phone said "no".

Got 'em! Not optimal, as 171 was already into DeButts when I could get out today.  You don't say no when your kids want to spend some time with you on Fathers Day!

For our SD80MAC fans, I hate to say it, but these look like complete scrap bait.  The NS emblem is still there, but the Norfolk Southern is sprayed out in red and a sloppy red PRLX is sprayed over the NS emblem.

Also, "live" locomotives have a certain sound to them when moving dead, and these things just sounded like clunky freight cars.  Makes me wonder if the traction motors had been pulled?

The worst of the bunch was 7210.  The cab was completely gutted and every single window had been removed.  Looked like someone tossed a grenade in the cab and ran.

7210 had a cab fire about two years ago if I remember correctly.
