Two Trains in One, K677-18 around Cumberland, MD - 26 June 2020
Author: DTWilson

A heads up on Facebook informed us that K677-18 was westbound at Hancock, MD.... so the boy and I load up for the 20 mile drive from our house near Keyser, WV  for Cumberland, MD.

1) We arrive at the "Blue Room" in Cumberland as K677 calls the signal at Mexico Farms... Expecting to see tankers, I was surprised to see the covered hoppers at the headend of the train.

2) Two CN units and three BNSF units ... we assume CSX combined the empty G089 train with the empty tank cars from K676 and sent the whole mess west as a single train.

3) The point where the grains cars end and the tank cars begin.

... More to Follow ...

The tank cars were placarded "1987"  which I believe is ethanol (empty going west).

They've just accumulated a lot of buffer cars and decided to return them. ;>)
