Author: train1275

Sunday June 28, 2020

It was Schnabel Car Sunday in D&H Land as an empty move was made back to GE Schenectady.
Power was SD60E 7019 and the cabooses were KRL 073 (Kasgro Rail) and BBCX 1002 (Brown Boveri).

1. The 7019 slowy makes its way up the Susquehanna Valley first caught here at Otego, NY

2. Looking at the cabooses on the rear end - Otego.

3. Rounding the bend at Pony Farm entering Oneonta for a meet with the 23K.

The meet with 23K at Oneonta. 23K has NS 4097 as the lead unit this morning followed by 3649 and 9656.

23K accelerates outbound for Binghamton and points west.

Train 056, the Schnabel Train designation has left Oneonta and heads out at Emmons in the morning sunshine.

A view of one of the Schnabel cars.

The two cabooses.

After the sunny shots at Emmons we are few miles up the pike near Maryland, NY and it is a pouring rain with fog settled onto the track structure as the 056 approaches.

Leonard Road near Maryland, NY - Quite the downpour and I'm soaked as the train passes.

Another shot of the cabooses at Leonard Road.

At Brooker Hollow  from the overpass at MP 528. Note now that the sun as reappeared, but I'm still soaking wet !

Last location is just beyond Schoharie Junction at MP 507 climbing out of the Schoharie Valley - a coming and going shot.

Later in the day the 11R comes south through Otego and he has picked up the power of Train 056, the Schnabel train and is on the way to Binghamton. Power on 11R is NS 9914, 7633 and the 7019 we followed north. Apparently the crew spotted the Schnabel train in at the GE Schenectady facility and ran light to Mohawk Yard where they set the 7019 up for the 11R to take back to Binghamton.

A last look at NS 7019 as it returns south on the 11R. - Otego, NY. This is almost exactly the same spot we first caught the 7019 this morning on the 056.

And to round out the day as the sun has almost dropped over the western hills and has about disappeared under a HUGE black cloud, we stand once more at Farmer Josh Johnson's farm crossing to catch the 30T. A big thunderhead is brewing to the northeast and a little earlier before dinner we had some thunder in the distance and a torrential downpour. The friendly crew on 30T has acknowledged us as their horsepower in the form of CN 8959 and 2682 hauls the tonnage Binghamton bound.

BBCX 1000 is the number of the Schnabel ("beak") car owned by Emmert.

The other car is one of the 3 Kasgro 20-Axle Depressed Center Flatcars, not a Schnabel car.
