Author: coach Just a quick question: I know the N&W merged with the Virginian and got a better line to their deepwater ports. But has the Blue Ridge grade, which used to be THE route to their port, been abandoned??

Author: Jimbo Still used by a number of trains daily, including coal empties (yes, there are still some) going west and Amtrak as mentioned.

The crew on Cardinal going from Dyer to Chicago will tell you they have to run on seven different railways. Those include Class I's, METRA commuter and a switching carrier in there as well.
