Byron, GA

What Norfolk Southern line runs through Byron, GA? Does that line start in Atlanta? Where does it go?  Byron features a Southern Railway caboose at the station. Thanks for any answers.

Byron is on NS' (ex-CofG) Albany District.  This line runs between Macon and Albany.  The Columbus District, towards Columbus and Birmingham, splits off the Albany District at Ft. Valley.

Current traffic through Byron includes the following scheduled trains:

356 Albany, GA - Macon, GA daily
357 Macon, GA - Albany, GA daily
373 Savannah, GA - Birmingham, AL daily
378 Birmingham, AL - Savannah, GA daily
G83 Macon, GA - Ft. Valley, GA turn Mo-Fr

There are also occasional grain trains to / from Albany and rock trains to / from Junction City.

At times the CofG handled named passenger trains through Byron, such as the Dixie Flyer, Southland, and Flamingo, as well as their web of locals in Georgia and Alabama. Last I heard, the Albany District was still signaled.
