First pic is W001 CSX geometry train westbound at Shenandoah Junction, WV.

Second pic is NS 950, a really short OCS, pulled by a clean but ratty looking paint on the PC heritage unit.

Does NS really want to pull their office special with an icon of a bankrupt railroad? <G>

The headlight out on the 1073 is a nice touch to go with the peeling paint & where they didn't wash below the walkways.  Keep it classy.

Ha, Ha, Ha, I love your joke.  The Penn Central was a mixture of oil and water from day one.

If NS is entertaining customers instead of inspecting track or providing a joy ride for executives, they might take more care in choosing and preparing a locomotive. We'll see.

w001 got a new motor!....it had a captive GP40.....dynamic braking that train to stop as we are required to do...(the coaches each have one braked axle account measuring sensors on all the others) was a thing best started way ahead...that new motor will stand that little train on end with dynamics.

What does anything in this post have to do with PSR?

It sure looks like 6025 had dynamic brakes, unless they didn't work.

The moves were for solely an officer's special (but an empty deadhead run at the point it was photographed). 1073 was used because it had its PTC system software temporarily reset to passenger speeds.

It did but they are feeble compared to modern db’s and more they are tapered response type meaning they don’t do much of anything at first and gradually ramp up as you move the lever. With Late model GE you get flat response meaning you get a predictable amount of braking from b1 to b8 dispensed linearly

Csx PTC screens you specify on login what sort of train you have, freight or pax

NS has different options enabled than CSX. Typically, your train type comes up automatically ... but that is usually just between intermodal, general merchandise, unit, etc.

Ours (CSX) defaults to freight, if that was the last setting used....but you can change it if needed...also it auto discriminates by train symbol if you are intermodal or general freight, but I think Intermodal can be forced for when our units are being used on another road. We have a super ID that has to run coal at near intermodal speeds to make it to the other end of the line and it gets a special symbol that fools the system into thinking it IS intermodal. Of course it can't exceed regular freight speeds, but it has to run balls to the wall otherwise and not dilly dally.....
