A Saturday afternoon on the NS Lurgan line
Author: bigsavage

After our visit to the City Park Train Hub, the afternoon of 8/8/2020 was spent between Chambersburg, PA. and Hagerstown, MD.
Although the overcast did not burn off until mid-afternoon, and the Heritage units that frequent this line all run and hide whenever we are trackside, it was still an enjoyable time.

A V?96 local was ready to depart Vardo yard in Hagerstown with OLS #9250 as 2nd unit.

A favorite spot is in Marion, PA., just north of the PA914 crossing at MP58.
Here are both sides of 12R approaching, the corn crop has been revived by recent rain.

A quick foray into CP53 at Chambersburg allowed a glimpse of a waiting coal train and a look at 2 rail relics, the former WMRY overpass over NS, which originally was the Cumberland Valley RR.
Note how the overpass was raised from the original stone bridge abutment.
Also took a look at the former Chambersburg, Greencastle, and Waynesboro 1908 underpass under the WM.

The Greencastle High-line RR station that hosts the Virtual Railcam also now has a ATCS board in a window, allowing us to catch 203 westbound at Hykes Road overpass.

Moving down to Maugansville, MD. a 201 came west next, followed by the 746 or 776 (garbled scanner) coal train with 2 rear DPUs that had sat at Chambersburg for about 3 hours.
The white water tower above the coal train's lead unit marks the Volvo-Mack truck engine plant.
