UP Rio Grande Heritage Unit in Mississippi
Author: Vicksburg_Route

Thanks to a heads up from Trainorders Member Tuxedorailfan, I learned that UP 1989, the Rio Grande Heritage Unit, was leading train I-LBNS (Intermodal-Long Beach to Atlanta-NS).  The train was turned over to KCS at Shreveport, Louisiana and would operate across the Meridian Speedway as KCS Train I-LBNS.  The train would be turned over to NS in Meridian, Mississippi for the remainder of the trip to Atlanta, Georgia as NS Train 22G.

The last few weeks, this unit has made several close passes, but failed to actually make the trip to and from Atlanta via the Meridian Speedway.  Thankfully, under pristine fall skies, I had the opportunity to photograph the unit as it passed through the area.

Image #1 - UP 1989 crosses the Mississippi River Bridge at Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Image #2 - UP 1989 crosses the Big Black River on the elegant arched concrete bridge constructed by the Alabama & Vicksburg Railway in the early 1920s.

Image #3 - Same as Image #2 with a slightly different perspective.

Great pictures and a awesome heritage unit!  Could you please tell me what type of filter you used to take the pictures?  They are stunning.  Thank You

Thanks!  I used no filters for these images.  I shot these with a Nikon Df camera body, Nikon 28-300 lens.  I shot in RAW format and processed the images in Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop.  Processing was minimal.
