Eastern Railroad Discussion > Current Norfolk Southern Daily Scheduled Train CountsDate: 10/17/20 06:47 Current Norfolk Southern Daily Scheduled Train Counts Author: NSSpike The chart below shows the current number of scheduled manifest, automotive and intermodal trains for the NS. Over the past 30+ months there has been a reduction of 116 scheduled trains on the system. These number DO NOT include unit grain / coal / ethanol trains that continue to operate as needed on the system. Most, not all of the current 253 trains operate daily with a few either operating 5 or 6 days a week. Also a couple of trains like 229 & 265 have a different terminating point for different days of the week.

A lot of trains running does not necessarily equal a well tuned operation.

We'd also need to know how much of the consolidation is the extension of trains to more distant terminals vs, the consolidation of trains between two terminals. Date: 10/19/20 04:40 Re: Current Norfolk Southern Daily Scheduled Train Counts Author: abyler It's interesting how far the East-West consolidation has gone over the past 20 years. Its not entirely clear how much of this was doubling traffic over the mountain to sort it at Conway and send it back before Enola was restarted.
