A "Cardinal" at "Humpback Bridge"
Author: cinder

On our way from Manassas, VA to Hawk's Nest State Park, WV, we stopped at a peaceful wayside between Covington, VA and White Sulpher Sprinjgs, WV to catch the thrice-weekly eastbound Amtrak Cardinal.  This little patch of heaven is just off exit 10 on I-64 via US 60..

1.  The arching covered bridge.
2.   An on-time Cardinal as viewed from under Humpback Bridge.
3.   More beauty.

There are clean privies and several picnic tables  overlooking Dunlap Creek.

Beautiful! I will have to mark this as a place to stop if I go by there.

History plaque, road bridge preceded the C&O by over 3 decades.

Beautiful work, cinder. Thanks for the effort and for posting them for us to enjoy. I am highly partial to anything that includes colorful fall foliage, but when it can also include another interesting (much less historic) element like the bridge, well then it's a real winner. IOTD candidates, Mr. Webmaster, if you please!

Great pix of a location I'd never heard of before. Would a drone shot allow both the covered bridge and train in the same shot, or is the foliage too dense for even that?

A drone could capture the bridges in a single shot.
