Penn Central rebuilt them at DeWitt shops.

But the locomotive I'm asking about (AMTK 106) was still a true Alco when ownership changed from PC to Amtrak. The EMD rebuild of it happened under Amtrak in 1980 so was it rebuilt at Dewitt or New Haven?

Thanks. Unfortunately, the locomotive I'm interested in (originally NYC 8263) isn't on that list so it seems to point towards Amtrak 106 not being rebuilt at any Conrail shops.

Just went thru some pix.   AMTK 106, after rebuild , had the Dewitt hump,  AFAIK, all other RS-3m 1970's rebuilds with 567's had a smooth loong hood line, or just a small raised area near the exhaust stacks.    That would make it a dewitt rebuild.

I want to believe they're Dewitt rebuilds but the noticeable difference I'm seeing is that all the Amtrak RS3s still had only one exhaust vent after being rebuilt whereas the Conrail ones had two.

I posted a gob of info on your passenger post. Seems three were rebuilt by Amtrak:) so shouldn't be called DeWitts anymore.

I couldnt see the stacks in the pic i was looking at....So if it has one stack, a NH rebuild certainly more seems likely.  Also, saw a lot of pix of it with the 244, in the NH to Providence area...

Amtrak 106 had a cab fire while working in Boston in late 1980.  It was sent to New Haven where it was rebuilt during 1981 as an RS3m patterned after the DeWitt built RS3m’s, but with only one stack.

If memory serves correct this is the one sitting in Belington, WV on the DGVR. If so, the reporting marks are BDLX 106 if that helps broaden your search a bit. But it sounds like things are pretty well wrapped up.
