You are right about that.  NS certainly has a "dynamic" strategic vision when it comes to operations.  These NS divisions seem to change/consolidate/break up every six months.  Let me guess what is coming next - they will move dispatchers out of the Network Operations Center in Atlanta into regional dispatching centers at each of the three region headquarters cities.

Any idea as to where the main office of each new division and region will be located?

Thank you in advance.

Blue Ridge Division would probably stay in Roanoke.  They already left the old Virginia Division office building downtown (it's for sale) and moved into the Roanoke Terminal office near Shaffers Crossing.  And of course the present Pocahontas Division is a consolidation of the old Pocahontas Division headquartered in Bluefield, WV, and the Virginia Division.

Edited to add - Aren't the Regional offices in Atlanta?

Jim

"I asked my NS manager friend and first he has heard of it."

There is a lot of irony in that sentence right there !

Railroads have been doing this for years. Some big RRs have changed divisions and districts so many times in the last 150 years that you would be quite a historian if you could keep track of it all and provide a time line with name changes and movement of boundries.

What, exactly, does a division do these days?

Micro Manage each other, paperwork for PSR and FRA. Stress over stock price. Snitch.

Just got back from 2 days in  Harrisburg; the unofficial feedback from NS employees is that the Keystone office will remain in Harrisburg, and the change takes effect November 1.  If I find anything different I will post it.

Makes sense, supposedly they are paying a lot for the rent in Foster Plaza in Greentree.  Does NS own the building in Harrisburg?

I guess it most be official then that Kansas City is the Heartland of America.  NS Heartland Divn terminates there. Union Pacific's Heartland Division is headquartered at Kansas City. BNSF  Heartland Division runs through KC. I think it is headquartered in Lincoln.
