A Chase Of The Juniata Valley Railroad Out The Maitland Branch
Author: NS6707

Back on 11-5-20, I chased the JVR-1 crew from Lewistown all the way to Joe Krentzman & Son located in Maitland, Pennsylvania, which is the end of their line. They were using the 446 for a change & they took 3 empties out to their only customer on the line.

Pic 1: Water Street, Lewistown, Pennsylvania.
Pic 2: Crossing busy US 322. I took this off of the Green Avenue Bridge.
Pic 3: Shade Mountain Farm Road.

Great Post Gage!
Hard to believe that was once a major coal route for the PRR to take coal trains from Sunbury and Shamoken, PA to the Mainline at Tyrone!
Long ago and far away.
Go

I dont know the line from the past.  If i knew it from Main Line RRomg days, I'd probably be disappointed.  But for today, great branch line RRing pix.  Reminds me of some of the locals on the EL. Just missing the caboose behind the engine...

I'll take this kind of stuff over the class 1 main line wide cab stuff any day....

This old (1871) PRR line does have a fascinating history, if one cares to look.
Building of Northumberland yard and traffic diversion to the Bald Eagle line turned this trackage into a bucolic branch line early in the 20th century.
PRR did use this line for safety and technology experiments, but the tracks were cut as a through route starting in 1957. Trackage is gone today between Maitland and Kreamer.

For everyone admiring the photos, you might want to get out there sooner than later.  If the courts finally resolve the dispute, Carload Express would take over the line with their generic corporate-painted red/black/yellow power.
