D&H Land Action Sunday
Author: train1275

Sunday November 15, 2020

1. Started out with the 22K, again running later than normal, caught first at the Route 7 overpass between Unadilla and Wells Bridge. Power was the atypical SD60E, AC44C6M, SD60E - today in the form of NS 6958, 4340 and 6965.

2. Now caught at Pony Farm approaching Oneonta.

3. And seen at Emmons after leaving Oneonta behind as he heads  towards Cooperstown Junction.

4. 22K works north at Worcester, NY

5. At Delanson he will meet the 30T and 23K, and here is the 30T with hot exhaust rising skyward distorting the sky approaching Delanson with NS 3660, 1839 and 4023.

6. The 30T rounds the big bend at Central Bridge after crossing the Schoharie Creek, and now starts the cllimb up grade to Richmondville.

10. A view from Interstate 88 as the train hugs the hillside as it climbs towards Richmondville.

11. The light is terrible and a cold rain is falling now. The ISO is bumped up to 640 to try and capture anything as it is really dark! Here the 30T passes by the Beaver Lodge at Leonard Road south of Maryland, NY.

12. One last ditch attempt of a shot as 30T arrives in Afton for a meet with 16R. The 23K is right behind 30T for a three train meet.

Last three, and it was hard to pull off with almost no light.

The 23K arrives on 30T's heels at Afton for the meet with 16R. 23K's power is NS 4183, 1222 and SD60E 6951.

The 6951 - it's cold, it's raining and the light is all but gone.

A last look at CP 587 signals at Afton, 16R is about to come out but we are calling it a day.

Many years ago, 1980 maybe? I drove the Interstate along there on a trip to Albany and hoped to catch a look at D&H action. Even though it was winter and the trees were bare there just isn't much to see. I repeated the trip around 1985-6 but it was summer and there was even less to see. I really appreciate these images of today's trains on the former D&H.
