If they had model railroad equipment in those containers, there's going to be some upset folks on here!

I know, I've decided if after 50 years in this hobby and I don't have it, I don't need it, easier said though.

Do the ships use the locks between containers in the corners like they do on stack trains or are the containers just stacked on each other?

Thousands of insurance claims on this one!

Insurance claims handlers will be busy for a while....

They collect millions of dollars from ships that have thousands of successfully completed deliveries,
so, one ship-loss out of a million trips, isn’t too much of a burden on them..

I’d imagine Ocean Network Express will invoke General Average on this one. Basically that means the vessel owners and all shippers with cargo on board will share the loss on a pro-rata basis.

Probably not. I don't think the crew voluntary threw containers off the ship...

Must be amazing the things that are on the bottom of the world's oceans.

The owner can invoke General Average even for incidents not related to “saving the ship”. There have been onboard fires (unrelated to cargo) and engine failures that resulted in invocation of the General Average Clause. I was involved in a GA claim about three decades ago where the ships engines failed and the vessel had to be towed into port. The owner claimed General Average on the towing costs.

The NYS&W lost a 2-8-2 over the side of a ship back in the 1980s.

They ordered one of the last "new" steam engines made in China. Ship hit a storm, and the steam engine went into the big drink...

Just imagine the fallout if Atlas had a container on this ship and it went overboard!

I’m wondering what companies had a major disruption to their supply chain with this one.

A lot of these containers will float for a while before sinking and be hazards for shipping.

Floating containers are target practice for the US COAST GUARD and US NAVY.

Us pathetic human being will just keep using the ocean as our dumping grounds and let them float or sink.

Containers on ships also use interbox connectors, but in a violent storm they can fail.
