D&H Land New Year's Day 2021
Author: train1275

January 1, 2021

Good riddance to 2020, wishing everyone a much  better 2021.

1. Things were pretty messed up yesterday with the Extra 27W getting caught at a detector and delay and the 22K tying down and recrewing in Oneonta and a very late 30T and 23K, etc. ....... Today was a  bit off too as 22K was an afternoon show and 23K  was after dark. No 11R yet today, and maybe yesterday's slid through in the middle of the night, didn't see or hear him. So early this afternoon of this first day of 2021 we had 22K with NS 6952, 4183 and 6945 coming through past the old feed mill at Otego, NY. These must be at least somewhat reliable units as they have been ping-ponging back and forth for some time.

2. ...  and a going away as they prepare to cross over to the east side of the Susquehanna River. Before they get to Oneonta they'll cross back over.

3. At Oneonta the 22K met the 30T with NS 7652 and 4373, seen here departing for Binghamton. Actually he will get as far as Afton where there will be a meet with 16R.
The ice is still clinging to the rock cut face up on Route 7 in the background. Another very, very dreary and dark day in Upstate New York. Much has changed here in Oneonta since the days of the D&H (Pre-Guilford) and the changes are still hard to digest. 2021 should be the last year here as retirement to greener pastures is beckoning.

4. Forty years ago this was the scene at Oneonta with Conrail power in the mix, probably for train RPPY / PYRP.

5. Ex Reading power on the same day May 3, 1980.

6. D&H 7602 passes FA Tower coming up from Binghamton on January 7, 1983. By 1983 the "new" 7600's were looking pretty worn and ratty but to me they were still the new 7600's. Seems like yesterday.

Some day I will have to dig out and rescan my .tiff files of the C628's as trainorders does not support that format and I don't seem to be able to convert them with any degree of quality.

Why did the D&H build two different types of bridges over the Susquehanna River as depicted in photo #2?
