Eastern Railroad Discussion > Backhaul loads for AutoracksDate: 02/17/21 09:35 Backhaul loads for Autoracks Author: RRTom Just saw a company called ProTech is marketing small, collapsable containers that can be loaded into empty autoracks for a loaded backhaul move.
Parts heading to the auto factory is one application they name. Date: 02/17/21 11:02 Re: Backhaul loads for Autoracks Author: Rathole The big problem with this is that empty autoracks (even entire trains) are sometimes reconsigned to a different destination while enroute. It happens more than most people realize.

The enthusiast market is increasngly looking beyond local markets and I believe most current transport solutions are road based.

You can't do it personally, but a lot of automobile shipping companies do this. It's not uncommon to find rental cars or auction vehicles in an auto sorting lot waiting to get loaded on to autoracks. Even U Haul has started shipping trucks this way. Date: 02/23/21 13:22 Re: Backhaul loads for Autoracks Author: BurtNorton RRTom Wrote:

In my calls to Pro-Tech, the product looks interesting. I'm looking at using their containers, loading them at my transloads, and sending them to destination...in lanes where there is an available fleet of empty auto racks....stay tuned. |
