Adventures in D&H Land
Author: train1275

Friday February 26 - Saturday February 27, 2021

Catching a little action up Mechanicville / Saratoga way with variable weather, clouds, sun, gloom and hard to find trains.

Friday February 26th:

1. CP 2215 works the Saratoga yard.

2. Power off the 252 takes head room up by the Saratoga Springs depot with CP 8616 poking it's nose out.

3. The 23K heads out of Mechanicville through the reverse curves approaching Coons. Power is NS 6964 and NS 6954.

4. Piggybacks on the 23K leaving Mechanicville.

5. The 23K met the 22K just down the pike at Crescent, so it was just a few minutes before 22K came into view at Coons with NS 6958 and 6952

6. 22K approaching the yard.

7.& 8.  Now we see 22K at Mechanicville departing east heading for Noonans and the Hudson River bridge and eventually points east to Massachussetts. There are pigs on the headend after dropping autos.

Forward to Saturday February 27, 2021

9. CP's D45 job returns from Albany passing through Mechanicville with CP 2253, 8129 and 2260. Both end units are backwards. Maybe the crew likes them that way, I don't know, but they look rather odd.

10. D45 passing XO tower - Mechanicville.

11. The 11R pokes it's nose out approaching the yard coming in from Noonans. Power is NS 6951 4160 and 8014.

12. At Saratoga Springs the light is horrid and a cold rain is falling through utter gloom as the 252 pulls in from Montreal with CP 8653 and 9768. The depot is quiet as no passenger trains have stopped here since just after COVID began almost a year ago.

13. CP Action red breaks up the blandness of the lighting just a little.

14. Now a 2 hour - 30 minute hustle down to Afton, NY to catch the 16R. Here it passes the 1799 built Royston home with NS 6945 leading 3672 and then two surprises.

15. BNSF 6285 and BNSF 7881 are the trailing units.

19. Coming into Oneonta at Pony Farm, with the sun low and intense in the upper right.

20. No caboose today, but bringing up the rear was an MBTA coach just ahead of the box car.
