That is one nice looking train as all the cars are now painted in the great Baltimore & Ohio Railroad passenger train colors.  This is truly the best paint scheme that CSX has had since the merger of the Chessie System and the Seaboard System Railroads.  That "Moonlight" Dome gives it even more class.  Thanks for posting the video.

It does look great. Any idea why the normal OCS power was not used?

Thank you again for sharing.

I was told the Boss wanted the freight units on this.

Well Done!

Amazing that the oldest car in the consist is a mere 106 years-old!

And for comparison, a 1915-era plane.

Excellent!  Thanks for all the detail about each item of equipment, demonstrating that this is a remarkable and historic train.  That dome car and I share our age, but it might be in better shape.

Since the 2'nd car was built for the ACL, it should be named the Champion Davis, not a car built for the SAL.

While all the old observation cars undoubtedly have a small kitchen, I did not see any car labeled as a dining car.

After looking at all these cars and reading about how old they are, this is positive proof of what many have said before; there is no good reason why Amtrak cannot have many of their older passenger cars rebuilt.  This should be done rather then for our government to spend so much money on modern cars that do not ride as well nor function as well.  We here in America waste so much money when we should be recycling these resources, rebuild them like CSX has done with their equipment.

Looks like Moonlight Dome has been reconfigured so that it now runs "short end forward".  Miss the floodlights on the rooftop, though.

Great looking train.

Did anyone notice the rounded end of the stripe on the first car? Presumably this car will alway be one the point?

Yes, the power generator is in that end (the air vents are on the other side).  It is meant to always be the first car with generator furthest away from the business cars.

Probably difficult to compare a fleet of rebuilt cars that are only used a few times a year, have a dedicated shop team to prepare them for every run and sit inside a shop building most of the year, compared to older cars in constant daily service with less maintenance.

Great point to make about the comparison of the oldest car in this consist with the comparable airplane technology of the time.

The first thought that flashed in my head when I saw the 1920's era former FEC car was the thought that the car would have traveled on the FEC line to Key West, FL many times which would have been an awesome experience.   Think how much fun it would be able to have stood on the rear platform as that fancy car navigated the many bridges on the line out over the ocean!

A friend of mine, who passed a few years ago, Arthur Waldron was the traveling secretary for the president of the SAL when that car was still SAL 1.

I remember seeing #1 at the SAL station once when it was parked,  looked pretty good to a 15 year old.

The big brass must have been on this train with all the open end obs cars.  This was a very nice video, and the information was much appreciated.  Thanks for posting.
