BRRRRRR Cold in D&H Land Today
Author: train1275

Saturday March 6, 2021

It's cold, bone chilling cold when out in the wind. The kind that goes right through you.
Too bad that can't be captured in photos.

Stayed close to home today and let the trains come to me. Got the 23K, 22K, 16R and 11R. No 30T for some reason, or that is what I am hearing. Next train should be the 31T around midnight,

1. The 23K rolls through Wells Bridge NY on the way to Binghamton with NS 6958 and 6952. Looks like the 6958 has mis-matched number boards.
2. Widening out as they make the big curve along the Susquehanna River.
3. Along Route 7, south of Bainbridge with the defunct Blue Seal Feeds as a back drop.

4. Further down the line approaching Afton in a whirl of blowing snow. Yes, it was bone chilling, I guess it is something to do with March in Upstate New York.

5. Just down the track from the last photo the 23K met the 22K who was there waiting. Sometimes 22K is here before sun up and other days, well the sun has been long up like today. So a few minutes after shooting the 23K, we turn around and shoot the 22K coming around the bend out of Afton in a gloom of snow and fog. Power is NS 6971, 6942 and 6950. Three units instead of the lately, two units.

6. Looking up Freiot Street in Bainbridge, a shot I've wanted to try for some time but either there was no train, no light or both. Got it today.

7. 22K approaching Otego heading for Oneonta.

8. Now here he comes past Cooperstown Junction where the Cooperstown Branch peeled off for Cooperstown.

9. Now we catch the 16R coming into Oneonta at Pony Farm with NS 6959 and 3645.

10. Next up is the 11R departing Oneonta with NS 6945 and 3672.

11. 11R glides through Otego heading for Binghamton.

12. At the end of the day the sun pops out from behind the clouds but the wind still has a very cold bite to it. Here we are at Wells Bridge.

13. I wasn't going to post this one, but in looking at it, there seems to be something different about the nose of the 6945. Is it the light play and shadow or is it a slightly non-standard nose ?  - Train 11R, Wells Bridge, NY

Thanks for braving the chill! Not only can’t you capture the cold air in photos of diesel locomotives, you also can’t capture the tears in your eyes from the chilly breeze!

As for the nose on the last shot, it looks normal to me, but I am staring through tears in my eyes.

Real nice series!  #4 gives a great sense of movement, too.
