NS intermodal block swapping in Sheffield, AL?
Author: ShortlinesUSA

Good morning.

A friend noted that both 22N (Rossville, TN - Atlanta) and 265 (Charlotte, NC - Memphis/BNSF) worked Sheffield, AL yesterday (Saturday).  We were both surprised to hear those trains making setoffs/pickups there.  Any insights on what blocks are being swapped in Sheffield?  We theorized 265 may be setting off cars for Rossville, but no idea what 22N would be picking up, unless it's western traffic and allows a train to bypass Rossville to get onto 22N and move east.

Any insights are greatly appreciated!

22N sets out the Charlotte block to be picked up by 264.  It also picks up BNSF traffic bound for Jacksonville set out by 264.

23N sets out the UP traffic for 25Q.

25Q originates at Sheffield with the UP blocks set out by 23N and 265.

264 picks up the Charlotte block set out by 22N.  It also sets out BNSF traffic for Jacksonville to be picked up by 22N.

265 sets out the UP traffic for 25Q.  The Sunday and Monday originating 265 terminates at Sheffield.

Thank you very much, Andrew.  Never realized that much swapping went on between those trains.  Very informative info!
