From this article. Apparently the idea was floated by Amtrack in 2015, and Norfolk Southern said - "=18pxDozens of trains a day run on a strict schedule too tight to be interrupted by passenger traffic,"

"Strict schedule" ........LOL

That "Strict Schedule" is a lot of Bull S--t.  We all know this because these freight railroads do not want any passenger trains period.

The same release had Reading to Philly Amtrak service projected.

I seem to recall during the Clinton years there was an Amtrak plan to run Harrisburg-Reading-Allentown-NYC but was cancelled about a month before getting started, anyone else recall this?

This comes up somewhat frequently around here. They do taxpayer funded study after study and make announcement after announcement and simply cannot comprehend the fact that Amtrak does not own the railroad. And when NS states VERY clearly, and has on NUMEROUS occasions that there is not going to be a mix of freight and passenger trains on OUR railroad, I swear all our so-called political and economic leaders hear is Charlie Brown’s school teacher.

Maybe the could use eminent domain on them, would be pretty funny

Also - there's a lot of old, unused, broken down track in the Allentown area. Amtrak could always come in and build up an old line. Wouldn't need NS

Not sure what Allentown you’re talking about, but the old, unused, broken down track in Allentown, Pa is long gone.

It would be nice that instead of proposing fantasies the focus should be on immediate infrastructure needs. If the Hudson  tunnels aren't fixed, there will be no way for trains from Scranton/Allentown/Reading to access New York in 2035.

Very true. Apparently it has the green light. Once environmental assessment finishes up by end of May or June, it shouldn't be long.
