126 Derailed at Knoxville (UPDATED 4.10.21)
Author: willobi

Just received word that 126 has derailed in the plant at West Sevier in Knoxville, TN. No further details other than T21 is tying his train down at the 128 MP.

No new info this morning. Looks to me like the auto rack (empty) was simply 'squeezed' out of the train.  Seeing how the train was 182 cars and this one was about 20 deep, it is plausible. They were most likely slowing down or stopping and the rest of the train was on a downhill slope

The goal is to run longer, heavier trains with fewer locomotives & people.
....physics & derailments be damned.

Update.  I have just found out that the derailment took out 2 brand new electric switches in the plant at West Sevier, 4 empty cement hoppers and 2 LOADS of new VW's.  This is going to be a costly one..............

It's OK.  Look at all the money & time they "saved" by running one monster 180 car train instead of two 90 car trains.  An occasional big derailment is just the cost of doing bizNS in their eyes.   They have a plan & it's called PSR; nothing to worry about, everything is the "new normal."

These new hire college boys know a lot more than the old heads with 40 years experience.
