More NS Griffin (GA) District
Author: DocJohn

Another example of increaed traffic on Griffin District.  Train may be 223 or I23.  Was stopped at Bolingbroke, GA.  Probably waiting for new crew to take train south into Macon.

19ft auto racks have always been allowed on the Griffin Line, The work you mentioned was done to allow Double stacks and the super tall 22ft racks to pass.

It is noted that the contract between the railroad and the government entities identifies the railroad as the Central of Georgia Railroad Co.  Link:  https://go.boarddocs.com/ga/maconbibb/Board.nsf/files/BDXP4862C19C/$file/7-16-2019%20-%20Res%20GDOT%20%20-%20Central%20Ga%20railroad%20-%20College%20Streeet%20Railroad%20Bridge.pdf
Had the City of Americus (GA) been as cooperative as Bibb County, and not refused CSX's repeated requests to rebuild the Lee Street Bridge in downtown Americus just west of the yard, the entire former SAL Savannah-Montgomery line might still be intact and busy with intermodal trains.

I wonder too if CSX would have kept that Savannah to Montgomery direct route if the city of Americus would have helped with that overpass replacement. What is the height restriction for train at that overpass?

Would you look at that, seems like the Lee Street bridge is getting replaced.

I doubt it. There was not a single freight customer between the outskirts of Montgomery and the paper mill at the Georgia-Alabama line, which is reached by NS).

Agree, autoracks have been around on the Griffin District for a long time (I have pictures from 2006 or so snaking along at 10 mph).  Saturday morning I did not have time to see what was behind the locomotives.  Last Thursday's 223 had the internmodal cars between the blocks of autoracks.

If NS clearance standard is 22 feet, why did it permit 21-foot clearance at Pio Nono Avenue bridge?

Was that the old clearance for Pio Nono or the new one? They very quickly lifted that bridge by a foot. In under a weeks time.
