High Hoods and a Standard Cab
Author: mtzctrain

Last Tuesday, I happened to be running an errand, and came across this fantastic train in Decatur, IL.
A duo of high hoods and an SD-40E (standard cab rebuild) are pulling a long cut of cars out of the ADM yard, headed over to the NS yard. I'm not sure how many of these high hood gp units NS has left, but I'd guess there's not many. These units are on what was originally the Illinois Terminal mainline along Faries Parkway in Decatur. Can't find a lashup like this very often in 2021!

Nice catch. If I remember correctly, the last time Chris Toth replied to a high-hood question and indicated that there are approx. 67 high-hood units on the roster.

I suspect he’ll chime in here.

Currently, there are 59 former SOU GP38-2's and 10 former N&W SD40-2's that are still on the NS active roster.
