Eastern Railroad Discussion > D&H Land - With a Second to SpareDate: 05/11/21 16:55 D&H Land - With a Second to Spare Author: train1275 Tuesday May 11, 2021
Train 30T comes south through Otego, NY after a meet at Oneonta with 16R. The sun was getting low over the western hill as we waited in Josh Johnson's farm field. Here comes the train, and we get a shot off but by the time the 5th car passes a cloud had moved in and the sun had began it's dip behind the hill making the whole scene appear as if there were a major eclipse. Got the shot with a second to spare ! Power is NS 4025 and CN 8003. 16R also waited for the 11R which has not passed yet, but on the way at 7:54pm. The light is cloudy mud so staying in the rest of the night. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/11/21 16:56 by train1275. I was Asst. MM at D&H Oneonta car shops ....way back when ...1975-76 Worked closely with Chris McDermott, while keeping some loco repair/inspection work from clogging Colonie Shops ... Especially with the recent acquisition of redirected 20 GP 38-2 ( LV) & 10 GP39-2 ( ex-RDG), together with newly purchased (25?) GP-39-2s (7600s) from EMD.. Many 'acquired' former-owner locos were re-painted to D&H colors at the Oneonta, compliant, spray paint booth and enclosure. I enjoy all your shots from that region--- brings back memories of many road trips & 'rescue missions' with mechanics from the car & loco depts..between Binghamton & Albany.. I presume that all Oneonta shop buildings are razed & long-gone. Wes Camp Date: 05/12/21 16:21 Re: D&H Land - With a Second to Spare Author: train1275 Wes,
I know Chris MacDermot very well and he taught me a lot ! A wonderful man. Not much left at Oneonta, I'll see if I can grab a few shots of the few buildings left. It is a sore sight from the days of yore. The whole area around the old yard office is nothing but weeds and brush and two tracks. Never would know it was there. Regards, Doug Ellison |
