Eastern Railroad Discussion > Ashland, KY, Intermodal TrainsDate: 06/07/21 09:36 Ashland, KY, Intermodal Trains Author: DFWJIM I recently overnighted in Ashland, KY at the Delta Hotel and I had a room facing the CSX tracks along the Ohio River. I saw a few manifest trains and Amtrak during my stay but no intermodal trains. Does CSX run intermodals on this line or are they routed elsewhere?
Thanks for your responses. Date: 06/07/21 09:55 Re: Ashland, KY, Intermodal Trains Author: florida581 No intermodal on this route for CSX. The Portsmouth, Baltimore, and Chambersburg intermodal trains run the Sand Patch though Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Andrew Date: 06/07/21 11:40 Re: Ashland, KY, Intermodal Trains Author: zars They did run on the C&O, single-level, for a time during construction on the Virginia Avenue Tunnel in Washington DC; from the Northwest Ohio terminal to Portsmouth, VA via Fostoria and Columbus, Ohio; Ashland, KY, Charleston, WV and Richmond, VA. Once the tunnel was completed, they returned to the B&O main line via Sand Patch.

Rumor was they made better time on that route.
