It wasn't until I reread David Bain's Empire Express recently that I remembered that Thomas Durant was involved in building the Adirondack Railroad (the original name of the SNC route) after his adventures with the UP. A search for "BAR" and "BL2" yeilds quite a few photos - "BL2" may yield even more.
Didn't see too many images of the top though there were several with tarps over the top - that could significantly simplify your work lol.
