I was recently told that an intermodal train on NS typically takes 47 hours to run from the Norfolk, VA area to Chicago. Barring any issues, what is the run times for a CSXT intermodal trains between the same two points?

According to www.shipcsx.com, Q135 has a cut-off time of 1700 hrs (Mon) in Portsmouth, VA and arrives at 59th St in Chicago at 2200 hrs (Thurs).

NS has two routes between Norfolk and Chicago, one via Columbus and Bellevue and the other via Knoxville and Cincinnati.  The one via Bellevue may be faster.

Per the NS Corporate website for intermodal cutoff/availability schedules, NS domestic container train 233 from Norfolk to Chicago has a daily cutoff at Norfolk - Portlock of 1500 (Eastern time) with availability at Chicago - Landers 54 hours later at 2000 (Central time). Transit time may be 47 hours with sufficient schedule padding to ensure availabilty 2 days and 6 hours later.

Going east to Norfolk from Chicago, NS stack train 234 appears to have a longer transit time with a daily Chicago cutoff at 1700 (Central time) and Norfolk availabilty 59 hours later at 0700 (Eastern time). 234 also apparently works at Rickenbacker Yard Columbus enroute. I don't know if westbound 233 makes any pick-ups / set-outs enroute.

And FWIW for timing purposes, Q135 typically doesn’t depart Pinners Point (Portsmouth) until closer to 8-9 pm IIRC.
