"Head to the Boonies!" MA&N Utica-Boonville NY
Author: ut-1

On July 27th, Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern ran an unusual-looking train up its Utica-Lyons Falls NY line to Boonville: 2 engines up front, Nos. 2042 (MLW 420W) & 2453 (Alco C425), 10 empty pole cars and No. 2456 (Alco C425) bringing up the rear (to ease with switching at Boonville's 3B Timber, 33 miles north of Utica).

We begin in Holland Patent, at MP 12, with a hi-rail being set-off the tracks to clear the way for the freight. The former NY Central passenger station now houses village offices.

After the Holland Patent scenes, next up, 3 miles farther north, the train passes Mapledale Road, Trenton.

Six miles beyond Trenton, the train is observed from the public viewing platform at Remsen's Depot.

Finally, approximately 27 miles from Utica, the train is seen in Steuben nearing the Bethel Rd crossing.

I once rode two days of Bart Jennings Rare mileage trip on this railroad. Good times were had by all.

Love your stuff, even without the snow. So what does the facility at Boonville look like?

No.25 appears to be a RSC2 with strange looking trucks?
Anyone know the history of this locomotive?

Thanks for posting. Brings back fond memories of my 15 or so year association with this section of the North Country.

It was owned by the Utica & Mohawk Valley Chapter NRHS for over 30 years and was on display during that time at Utica's Children's Museum. The engine was moved to Remsen earlier this year after a successful GoFundMe campaign, more info here:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/save-the-adirondack-25

Another neat video. Cool train and a Mantua passenger car to boot! Love the beautiful countryside.
