CSX 911 today and a September 1975 comparison
Author: EL833

We were treated to a well timed westbound coal train through Akron, Ohio this morning with CSX 911 leading. In photo one we see CSX train N758 and in photo two, from September 1975, we see a westbound Erie Lackawanna freight. A lot has changed including the total elimination of the EL at this location.

And we've been treated to perhaps the best "then and now" combo in the history of rail photography.
Well done.

An excellent example of photographic time travel. You take us from our present to your past.

Terrific comparison, #1 looks nicer but I think most of us would choose to be trackside at #2...

Just Wow Roger !  A pair of SDP45s will always beat a pair of GEVOs in my book.

Great shot! Have to give both 5 stars as I like 1 for the CSX 911 and 2 for the historical content 😊😊😊

Great photos and a very provocative then and now comparison! FWIW, I, too, prefer the EL SDP45s hauling what looks to be a priority TOFC/box car freight - as the lighting suggests it's afternoon, perhaps this is NY-99 from Croxton Yd or TC-99 from the D&H at Binghamton?

Q: From picture 2, is the B&O mainline the relatively decrepit looking pair of tracks adjacent to the EL mainline? Of course, the EL main was not in great condition either with lots of mud visible. By comparison, today's CSX main is pristine.

Good God, I would have never known that was the same spot!!! Great then and now shot my friend for sure. Shows the "progress" we have made. Though the CSX coal train is pretty cool to look at! You know where my heart is.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments ! You have to wonder what the current CSX 911 photo area will look like in 40 plus years.....
