Eastern Road trip - Part 6 (Steel Country)
Author: dwatry

The last part of the trip was eastern Ohio and a quick dip into Pennsylvania before going to the Pittsburgh Airport to fly back to California.
1) We started early with CSX T700 - westbound coal in Lowellville Ohio, which was covered in river fog.  Could not pass up the opportunity to put a Mail Pouch Tobacco barn in the photo, however, even if it was foggy.  This train was all loaded cars for Georgia Power and Light - curious as to why that would be going west in Ohio?  Seems like the wrong-way round.
2)  Center Street bridge in Youngstown was a great vantage point, and someone has conveniently cut multiple well-placed holes in the chain link fences for photo portals.   Here's CSX Q136 eastbound intermodal.  This valley used to be filled with steel mills and associated industry - almost all gone now.
3)  Same spot - D-752 local goes east, crossing NS line.

4)   D752 meets the T700 through then haze.
5)  And here comes T700 again after meeting the 2 eastbounds.
6)  Moving east into Pennsylvania - here's NS 11N autoracks heading west at Beaver Falls PA, with a hint of haze still in the air.    This is the former PRR bridge over the Beaver River.

7)  NS 21Q intermodal heads west - same location.
8)  Same train.
9)  And PRR still lives on in the form of a herald still on the bridge over the Beaver River - 53 years after the PRR went out of existence!  That's the CSX ex-B&O mainline you can see below the bridge.

10)  Moving east to Rochester PA, here's NS 55K (grain) coming west out of Conway Yard.
11)  Same train passing the landmark "Beaver Bowl" building (bowling supplies).
12)  Another shot of this awesome building.

13) NS 65X (crude) comes westbound through Rochester.
14) And finally NS 25V intermodal heads west.
Never did get an eastbound, which would have made for a great shot!  But had to get to the airport!

Besides the tracks, the Beaver Valley Bowl building is about the only recognizable piece of the scene!  Thanks for posting the history shot!
