Eastern Railroad Discussion > End of Day at Portsmouth, OH 10/22/2012

My niece is graduating this year in Engineerng at Ohio State.  She mentoned her boyfriend is from Portsmouth, Ohio and I noted I had been there and took a few photos of railroad. Turns out boyfriend father just retired from NS and she wondered if I could dig out photos.  I only have a few since I got there at end of day on way back from W VA.

This is along the old shoe factory which I guess is at west end of Portsmouth yard, now some shoe lace packaging, not sure if current.

1) East Bound  as the sun gets low
2) After sunset, Waiting for train, come on times running out!!!!
3)  WB just in time. (D-700, 50mm AIS MF)

Side Note:  Niece interned at Ford, Tesla, and De Loitte and debating job offers after graduation in spring.  Illinois resident, Never considered U OF I, recruited and got much better deal  at Ohio State?

Interesting, seems Portsmouth was a shoe mfg center, I believe this factory was repurposed to shoe lace mfg and now packaging but not sure that is current info.

Pic 2 came out nice....

Woukd not have expected to see position-light signals still in use!

I'm glad to see your niece obtaining an engineering degree. Women can do so much more than the stereotyped fields of nursing, teaching and accounting.  There's nothing wrong with women entering those fields, but women are capable of so much more.

My mom is originally from Portsmouth so I love almost anything from there. The big factory was Mitchellace, my mom even worked there or at least applied there way back. Thank you for the post!

Unfortunately all the CPLs where replaced and removed at the end 2014 or early 2015.

Nice pics. The eastbound home signal at GS, aka Gallia St. At one time, there was a B&O branch line that crossed the N&W there.
