20W on the ground in Pittsburgh
Author: reel_smooth

Per chat on the VRF Horseshoe Curve camera & Pittsburgh TV news, 20W apparently struck a boulder this morning about 04:30 on the Mon line at the intersection of Becks Run & East Carson St. Power reported to be on it's side & 9 cars off the tracks. Crew is Ok, no pictures or video as of yet. Suggest monitoring Pittsburgh news feeds for updates. And, the Southern H/U was leading.

i haven’t heard anything on the harrisburg east feed so far and from going on the radar to going off the radar between hummelstown and blandon would take at least an hour if not more for a train to go through

has the harrisburg line really been dead the last hour?

If you hadn't heard any trains, then there likely aren't any out there. Mainline derailment will throw a wrench in the gears.

There are also trains parked due to the lack of crews....

Good luck with your "train watching".

To be fair, you can still “watch” trains… even if they’re sitting still. LMAO

Hard to believe that back in the dark ages, we went out with a scanner in the vehicle and what showed up, showed up.

Glad the crew is okay... Hopefully the green GEVO will be back on the road at some point too...

As I understand it, there will still be traffic moving on the Pittsburgh line. The only thing that can’t use that section is double-stacks due to clearance issues through downtown. Still, it will slow things down a bit.

I'm glad the crew is okay.  Would the crewmen in this accident have been wearing seatbelts?  It seems that without seat belts, they would have been thrown around rather violently in the cab.

A couple of years ago, my brother-in-law and I bought cab rides on a diesel-powered Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad tourist train out of Jim Thorpe.  There were four of us in the cab and just two seats; but even those who were seated--including the engineer--were not wearing seat belts.  I don't even know if the seats had belts.

Engines don't have seat belts. I'd hate to be strapped down anyways given how most of them ride.

Considering what it hit; on the surface, that apears to be primarily cosmetic damage that can be fixed in a couple weeks by the gangs at Juniata.  Hard to say how much damage could have been caused internally of course, but everything about locomotives these days is built for strength and resilience given the extreme conditions they operate in.
